Early Development of FELDA

FELDA was established near independence in 1956. From a modest beginning, it has developed into a giant organization. Now, the schemes it managed covers an area of 853,313 hectares and more than 530,000 people are benefiting from FELDA which comprises of settlers, FELDA staff, contract workers and their families.

Since 1960, FELDA which was established to developed the rural areas, involved itself directly in the development efforts.

The state Government vested the land to FELDA which is responsible to undertake the integrated development of the areas.

The Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Abdul Razak during a visit to Taib Andak on 30 March 1968.

Land development in Johore Darul Takzim started in 1959 with the taking over of Sungai Tiram and Endau schemes from the state government.

Until 1995, 80 schemes were opened covering 164,023 hectares; 79% planted with oil palm, 15% rubber and 6% village areas.

The first scheme opened was Lurah Bilut planted with rubber in 1958, while Taib Andak was the first FELDA scheme planted with oil palm in 1961.
